July 9th, Blaise Castle
Dear Runner,
GETTING THERE. The Blaise Castle Estate is situated in Henbury, North Bristol. If you are unsure of how to get there, a good way to get directions is by logging on to www.multimap.com and putting BS10 7QS into the search box. Any problems do contact me. (Direct Link, Blaise Castle on Multimap)
CAR PARKING. When you get to the Blaise Castle car park, please do not park in the public car park but follow the signs to the event car park which is on the opposite side of the road (along Woodgrove Road). This will not only avoid excessive congestion of the public car park but also provides easy and safe pedestrian access to the registration area.
CHARITY COLLECTION. Avon Riding Centre for the disabled, who are providing the event facilities, will be collecting money for their charity as you enter the site – please give generously!
REGISTRATION. This is at Avon Riding Centre which is adjacent to the event car park. Please register no later than 11.30am for the 5k and 10k, and by 10.45am for the 2k fun-run.
RACE NUMBERS. These will be given out when you register.
CHANGING & BAG STORAGE. Both available at Avon Riding Centre.
TOILETS. The main toilets are at Avon Riding Centre. There are a small number of toilets available at the Blaise Castle café, however these are public facilities and are best avoided if possible.
FOOTWEAR. The course is truly multi-terrain and includes hills and wet sections, so please wear appropriate footwear. It is unsuitable for spikes.
THE COURSE. A single lap of the course is 5k, so 10k runners will be doing two laps. There are two substantial hills and a small stream crossing per lap! If you are interested in seeing a map of the course, this can be found on www.bristolandwestac.org.uk
FIRST AID. Throughout the course, marshals will be in contact with first aid services.
SPORTS MASSAGE. A qualified sports therapist will be available in the finish area. A small charge will be made for this service.
REFRESHMENTS. A variety of refreshments will be available at Avon Riding Centre throughout the day.
RUNNING EQUIPMENT AND ADVICE. Both our major sponsors, Easy Runner and Mizuno, will be present at Avon Riding Centre throughout the day to provide specialist advice on running equipment (including treadmill / gait analysis for precision shoe & orthotic advice).
PRIZE-GIVING. The prize-giving for all the races will take place at 2pm at Avon Riding Centre. If you are interested in seeing a list of all the prizes, this can be found on www.bristolandwestac.org.uk
RESULTS. These will be available on www.bristolandwest.org.uk as soon as possible after the race.
I look forward to seeing you on the day,
Dr. Clive Bromhall
