Aiming to make running fun

The Rick Report, Midland League Div 5
Bristol and West AC NewsDivision 5 match report, Stourport, Saturday 7th july.

With the prospect of a warm summer day's athletics the B team headed north to Stourport although we didn't have the strength in numbers as the last fixture at Yate, we were confident of challenging the hosts and division leaders Kidderminster & Stourport. In the end we finished fourth, just 4 points behind third place.

The gale force wind in the home straight, which was "worth at least 2 seconds over 200m", didn't slow Derek Morgan to win the 200m, but hit Steve Spiers in the B string as he tied up after 150m and just lost out. John Liebermann, and Simon Park picked up key points in the 100m.
Jamie Lukins just missed out by .3s in the 400m and then with Bruno looking good for second place in the 400m B string he hit the treacle with 50m to go and was overtaken to drop two places.
At middle distance, Patrick Wooddisse continued this season's form by winning the 800m A and 1500 B string races with Iain Stuart winning the 1500 A and jogging the 5000 with Rick to pick up points. Sean Hazell showed his improving ability over hurdles by winning the 2000m SC and also the 400m H (but only after the leading athlete had a refusal at the last hurdle). Bruno backed him up in the 400mH.
In the field, there were impromptu efforts by Rick and Sean in the long jump. John Liebermann showed true B team spirit by winning the triple jump and the B string high jump where Jamie Lukins also managed to clear the bar whilst elsewhere Bill and Murray competed in the hammer, shot and discus.
