KATE Reed returned home to Clevedon on Monday after suffering a blackout at the World Cross Country Championships in Mombassa, Kenya.
The Bristol & West AC international fell victim to the intense humidity and heat, which reached 35C which led to scores of runners dropping out and being given medical attention.

“I ran the first small lap and then the first of three big laps and while I was hot I was feeling okay,” said Reed.
“The next thing I remember is being in the medical tent on a drip! Apparently they pulled me out of the race on the second lap and I was unconscious for half an hour.
“I had to ask whether I had finished the race because I couldn’t remember a thing. Obviously the heat must have affected me badly, it was really awful.”
To complete a miserable day for Reed her training shoes and sun glasses were stolen at the venue.
