Young Athletes

(Apologies for the late posting of this report, Webmaster. Results available, Results -> Results 2006)

The Bristol & West Young Athletes team finished fourth on a cool unwelcoming day in Stoke on April 30th. The bank holiday weekend and other commitments left the team below strength for a match  that was always a challenge against two of the top three teams from 2005 and newly promoted Telford.

The reported match score was:

City of Stoke               464
Cannock & Staffs         349
Telford                        302
Bristol & West             283

The highlight of the day was three superb performances by James Preston. The Male Field Athlete of the match award for a shot putt of 15.22 metres. Another Grade 1 performance in the discus of 36.67 metres and only a Grade 3 in the hammer of 34.21 metres.

Other BU15 athletes also in contention for the field athlete of the match award were Cameron Walker-Shepherd PV 3.00 metres and Ding Yang long jump 5.83. Lewis Hield achieved a sprint double  100  12.2 secs and 200 24.8 secs which is an excellent start to the season

Tony Hillier cleared 3.70 metres in the MU17 pole vault.

Christina Jones and Christie Lazenby performed excellently in the LU17 throws with three wins and three second places between them. Christina achieved a grade 2 performance in winning the hammer throw with a distance of 32.47 metres.

Sam Bedwell recovered from a back problem to record three second places in the shot putt, 800 metres and “B” 100 metres.
