Aiming to make running fun

Midland Road Relays, Sun 25th Sept
Young AthletesPreview of the upcoming Young Athletes Midland Road Relays at Sutton Park on Sunday 25th September - by Dave Taylor.

With less than a week to go until the Road Relay's it's very encouraging to see the wealth of talent eager to compete in this popular event.

All team Managers have been able to put forward competitive teams with the main attention as with last year, concentrated on the Under 17 men.

Ben Robinson is the only surviving member from last years Gold medal winning team and is likely to be joined by 800m specialist Chris Knight and Nick Todd. Final selection is likely to be decided on the day.

The Under 17 Ladies have the traditional strong feel about it, with the experience of Emma Reed, Katie Knowles and new recruit Hannah Patmore. They will need to be on top form to repeat the Silver medals won at last years event.

The Under 15 Boys will have a good chance of finishing in the top ten, with Matthew Berwick, Callum Fisher and the fast improving Sean Hazell.

A surprise could come in the Under 15 Girls event with Grace Coppleston, Lucy Taylor and Sophie Bridges making up the 'A' team and Ellie Triggs, Steph Sale and Jo Chart in the 'B' team. With five out of the six girls representing Avon at last years English schools, their individual times are likely to be close.

Team selection is not a problem with the Under 13 boys with Jack Thompson, Sam Bedwell and George Hurford.

Annie Walker-Trafford runs the first leg in the Under 13 girls and should be joined by Sophie Gordon and Henrietta Worthington in the 'A' team.
