Nailsea School qualified from the South West for the English Schools Athletic Association cross country cup finals.

Report by Hilary Nash

The athletic success of many Nailsea pupils is a direct result of the encouragement given to them by Dave Turner. Dave relies on Bristol & West A.C to assist their development and hopefully like Dave become club record holders.

The Nailsea Intermediate Boys finished 5th out of 24 teams. Club members Nick Todd (13), Rob Whitham (16), Callum Fisher (25) and Brendan Hobson (55) were the scoring quartet. Pupils James Bridge (90) and Nick Walker (91) also enjoyed the day out.

Our local press expected Clevedon to do well in the Junior Boys competition. Nailsea pupils put in a great effort and finished 8th with Clevedon 12th again out of 24 teams. The scoring team packed well with Peter Edwards (36), Tim Bailey (43), James Cotton (45) and Josh Bagnall (57). Lewis Hield who excelled in sprints and long jump in the B & W A.C. Young Athletes Team in the summer was 79th and fellow pupil Matthew Pilgrim was 117th.
