 Calling All Young Athletes
Young Athletes

CALLING ALL YOUNG ATHLETES
HAVE YOUR SAY, HERE'S HOW

The officials of the club would like to be more aware of the needs of the younger generation who train and race throughout the year.

Therefore this is your chance to let us know what you enjoy about being a member at B&W and more importantly what areas could be better, for example:

  • Club kit: hoodies or sweat shirts?

  • Training venues: Ashton court, Whitchurch, the Downs, indoors at Cardiff, (where’s the best café)?

  • Coaching sessions: which training sessions do you most/least enjoy? Would you like to experiment with a different group?

  • Revamp at the club hut of Whitchurch: Any ideas on what form it should take, i.e. colour scheme or music, should we have athlete friendly drinks and snacks? Would a B.B.Q. be a good idea one evening?

  • Christmas Party: Last year was a great success and the plan is hold another social this year. However it would be great to have your ideas and to see as many of you as possible enjoying yourselves. Prize to the person who sells the most tickets!

  • These are a few examples I’m sure you have plenty more.

How do we plan to implement this?

The ideal situation would be to start up a buddy system whereby one or two athletes talk to the young athletes. They will then report back of any ideas good, bad or extreme, to myself Ali Hurford. I will then pass these ideas to the appropriate officer of the club. What I would really appreciate are a couple of volunteers from the U17/U20 who would consider this role until the end of September. This is a very light-hearted undertaking and should not cause much stress or hassle and to be young athlete’s representative would look good on your C.V.!

Anybody interested please contact Ali Hurford on 0117 9735931

Child Protection Procedures & Club Welfare
Club OrganisationThe new editions of our Child Protection Procedures and Club Welfare Policy are now available on this website from the downloads section in the Club Documents Section.

A printed copy is available from the Honorary Secretary.

Relevant printed pages are being circulated to parents of young athletes and Club volunteers.

Every Club member is advised to read through the whole of the Child Protection Procedure to see what is required of members in different club roles.

However by using the grid on page 2 you can see the specific items apply directly to you and which you need to follow.

Like other clubs and organisations, Bristol & West AC has to conform with the provisions of legislation.

Members must follow the procedure to conform with the law and for their own protection.

If the Club Welfare/Child Protection Officer is unavailable, please contact the Honorary Secretary, Mike Adams

SW and Inter-Counties Cross Country Champs
Race Fixtures and Results

South West XC Championships + SW Inter-county championships
Bicton Park, East Budleigh, Devon
Sunday 6 January 2008

Nearly 800 athletes competed in the championships.  Although it is only 3 miles from the south coast, it is less than two hours by car from Bristol centre. The venue is very scenic and the course is real cross country.

Rob Bugden was very thankful to Mike Down who had to wait to pick him up from Temple Meads Station; his train was 1¼ hours late. They then had to travel via Bath which made the journey complicated and they got lost twice. It all paid off – Rob won the senior race by one second form team-mate Kevin Heywood.

B&WAC athletes, B&WAC teams and teams which finished in the first three were:

SM       1 Rob Bugden; 2 Kevin Heywood; B&WAC team 1st
U20M   1 (4) Craig Peters; 2 (10) Richard Peters
M60     3 (97) Mike Adams

SW      1 Kate Goodhead; 3 Charlotte Coffey; B&WAC team 1
U20W  1 (8) Claire Conway

U17M   Avon 3rd
U15B   B&WAC team 3rd

U15G   1 Naomi Speake

The complete provisional results can be found here:
